Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a metal coated liquid crystal polyester substrate formed with conductive metallic film on the surface of liquid crystal polyester film by which the adhesion strength of a liquid crystal polyester film and a conductive metallic film is increased to a practicable level (level of stably exhibiting a peeling strength of ≥600 g/cm).
SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the substrate comprises subjecting the surface of the liquid crystal polyester film to surface roughening with an etchant composed of an alkali, an aliphatic amino alcohol derivative having a hydroxyl group in the molecule and water, then forming the conductive metallic film by a plating process on the roughened surface then heat treating the same. At this time, the substrate is heated to a prescribed temperature selected from within the range from 100°C to near the liquid crystal transition temperature.
