To provide a method for manufacturing an optical article having a contamination-preventing layer of proper durability.
The method for manufacturing the optical article comprises a step of forming an antireflection layer on a base material 200 and a step of forming an contamination-preventing layer on the antireflection layer by a vacuum deposition method by using a pellet 59. A catalyst is added to an contamination-preventing solution containing a fluorine-containing organic silicon compound, and the pellet 59 is impregnated with the contamination-preventing solution containing the fluorine-containing organic silicon compound in an activated state; and then the pellet 59 is subjected to heating treatment in a temperature range above the evaporation temperature of the catalyst and below evaporation temperature of the fluorine-containing organic silicon compound. The contamination-preventing solution containing the fluorine-containing organic silicon compound in a state of suitable reaction activity can be fixed in the pellet, and the contamination-preventing layer of high wiping resistance can be film-formed.
