Abstract:
To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber preform, capable of easily manufacturing an excellent optical fiber preform, and a method for manufacturing an optical fiber, capable of easily manufacturing an excellent optical fiber.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an optical fiber preform 10P comprises: a charging step P2 of charging silica particles SP having an added rare earth element into the internal space 111 of a silica tube 110; and a melting step P3 of irradiating the silica particles SP charged into the internal space 111 with excitation light EL for exciting the rare earth element to melt the silica particles SP by heat generated from the rare earth element excited by the excitation light EL. A method for manufacturing an optical fiber 10 includes a drawing step P4 of drawing the optical fiber preform 10P manufactured by the charging step P2 and the melting step P3.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
