Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material for UV laser light which transmits a high power-UV laser light at high transmittance without damage, is thermally conductive and crack-resistant, causes no color center and a haze-free.
SOLUTION: A lithium tetraborate single crystal by Czochralski method is manufactured by drawing a single crystal rod from a lithium tetraborate melt at the drawing rate of 0.1-2 mm/hr wherein the first temperature gradient of the zone of the single crystal rod from the melt surface to 10 mm right over the melt and the second temperature gradient of the zone higher than 10 mm are respectively 50-150°C/cm and 5-50°C/cm which is smaller than the first temperature gradient.
