To provide a method for manufacturing an outer ring for bearing by which occurrence of crack and underfill on an outer ring blank can be prevented and a manufacturing yield can be improved.
In the method of manufacturing the outer ring 10 for bearing, an orbital groove 14 of a rolling body is formed at the center part in the axial direction of the inner peripheral surface and a sealing groove 15 is formed at a step part 16 provided to be depressed at both end parts in the axial direction of the inner peripheral surface. The method comprises a rolling-formation process, in which a mandrel 12 forming a prescribed ruggedness on the outer peripheral surface is pushed against the inner peripheral surface of the rotating cylindrical outer-ring blank 11 to expand the diameter of the outer-ring blank 11 into a prescribed diameter and to form shapes of the orbital groove 14 and the step part 16 into the outer-ring blank 11. The rolling-formation is applied to the outer-ring blank 11 by making the size in the axial direction of the outer-ring blank 11 shorter than the size between the projecting parts 19 for forming the step part of the mandrel 12 for forming the general shape of the step part 16 on the outer-ring blank 11.
