To provide a method for manufacturing a phase difference film that has a high yield in a cutting process of the phase difference film, a uniform retardation characteristic, and a favorable transparency.
The manufacturing method is characterized in that when drawing the phase difference film so that a web travel direction forms a tilt angle of 20 to 70 degrees to a retardation phase axis after casting a dope on a supporting body and stripping the web from the supporting body, the loci L1 and L2 of the gripping means at both ends of the web and a distance W between the two gripping release points satisfies the formula: 0.9W<|L2-L1|<1.1W, and also when drawing the film in the state in which the web contains a residual solvent quantity of 5 mass% or more, the residual solvent quantity is reduced while contracting the film, and between the gripping start point of the web and the gripping release point, the organic solvent concentration in the web atmosphere is not less than 50% of the saturated moisture concentration in the process.
