Abstract:

To provide a phase difference film having an optical anisotropic layer reduced in change of optical characteristic before or after saponification processing and fixed in orientation of a liquid crystal composition.

A method for manufacturing a phase difference film having at least a support and an optical anisotropic layer includes the step of forming the optical anisotropic layer by fixing the orientation of a polymerizable liquid crystal composition while progressing the polymerizing reaction of the composition with light emitted thereto. In the step, light is emitted via a filter that has 1% or less transmittance relative to light of 185-nm wavelength; and/or light is emitted using an ozoneless lamp; and/or the polymerizing reaction is advanced in the atmosphere of oxygen concentration equal to or lower than 10,000 ppm.
