To provide a method of manufacturing a polymer which has an equal effect as compared to that of a polymer manufactured by using NMP when applied to a lithographic printing plate, and to provide a polymer for a lithographic printing plate.
A solution represented by formula (1), in which a quaternary ammonium salt monomer is dissolved, is added dropwise to a solution represented by formula (2) in which a monomer is dissolved. A solvent dissolving the monomer is preferably a mixed solvent composed of a ketone-based solvent and an alcohol based solvent. (In the formula, R11 is hydrogen atom or the like; L1 is a single bond or divalent linking group; R12-R14 are each independently hydrogen atom or the like; X- is an ion pair required for neutralizing a charge; R21 is hydrogen atom or the like; and R22 is an ester group or the like).
