To provide a fine suspension polymerization method with its efficiency enhanced by inhibiting a heat removing area on a jacket from reduction for an increase in heat removal from the jacket during polymerization and, simultaneously, by increasing the rate of polymer production per unit volume in a polymerizer.
In this method, a polyvinyl chloride based monomer and an oil soluble initiator are homogenized in a water soluble medium for fine suspension polymerization, and then, a dispersant comprising a polyvinyl chloride based monomer and a water solution of a surfactant is added to the polymerizable liquid. The addition is started when the polymerization rate of the initial monomer is not more than 30% after the start of the polymerization, and is terminated by the time when the polymerization rate of the initial polymer reaches 95 wt.%.
