To provide a method of manufacturing a rare earth magnet alloy ribbon of a proper solidification structure capable of revealing an excellent magnetic characteristic, by controlling a molten metal discharge quantity to a rotary roll surface in a rapid solidification process where the rotary roll is used.
The method for manufacturing the rare earth magnet alloy ribbon by the rapid solidification process where the rotary roll is used, comprises a step of preparing rare earth magnet alloy molten metal in a nozzle opposed to the rotary roll, a step of impressing discharge pressure to the rare earth magnet alloy molten metal in the nozzle and a step of reducing the discharge pressure up to a value required for a discharge continuation from a value when starting discharge in a moment when the rare earth magnet alloy molten metal starts discharge from the nozzle. Desirably, the discharge pressure applied to a molten metal surface in the nozzle, is increased from the discharge continuation pressure in accordance with reduction in a molten metal quantity in the nozzle.
