Abstract:
To provide a method capable of manufacturing a seamless steel tube excellent in quality without lowering productivity from a billet obtained by lengthwise-slitting a wide cast slab.
In the method of manufacturing the seamless steel tube by which the cast steel billet being the base stock is pierced with a piercing mill provided with a plug to obtain a hollow tube stock and then the hollow tube stock is expanded and drawn by a series of various kinds of rolling mills, the cast slab which contains 0.005-0.30 mass % C and is cast into a rectangular cross section of ≥2.0 aspect ratio is lengthwise-slit and the cross section of a slit is rolled into a circular or a square shape, thereby using the rolled slit for the base stock.
