Abstract:
To form a sinking shape in an outer periphery of a shaft-like member without depending on a cutting work.
A method of manufacturing the shaft-like member that has the sinking shape 14 on the outer periphery thereof includes: a hollow portion-forming step S2 of forming a hollow portion 4 inside of a shaft-like rough material 2; a surface layer portion-hardening step S3 of hardening a surface layer portion 25 of the rough material 2 to make the surface layer portion 25 harder than the inside portion 26 of the rough material 2; and a rolling step S5 of pressing a roll 3 to the surface layer portion 25 thus hardened, to form the sinking shape 14 on the outer periphery of the rough material 2.
