Abstract:

To provide a method for manufacturing a grain-oriented silicon steel sheet and a non-oriented silicon steel sheet, with extremely low iron loss, which have a mirror-like surface and an insulating layer of a tension-giving type.

The method for manufacturing the silicon steel sheet with the insulating layer, which forms the insulating layer on the silicon steel sheet of which the surface does not have any inorganic coating, comprises forming a silicate film on the surface of the silicon steel sheet having no inorganic coating thereon by baking it at a temperature range between a glass-softening temperature of the silicate coating and a higher temperature than it by 200°C, and then forming a silica-containing insulating layer on the surface of the silicate coating, so that the coating weight per unit area can be 1.5 times of the silicate coating or less.
