To provide a method for producing high-purity paraxylene efficiently by using a catalyst having a molecular sieving function (or shape selectivity) and excellent catalytic activity without carrying out an isomerization/adsorptive separation step.
A method for manufacturing a synthetic zeolite catalyst, which is used when at least one of benzene and toluene is alkylated or disproportionated, comprises a step of covering MFI-type zeolite having 100 m primary particle diameter with single-crystal silicate, in the concrete, comprises the steps of: using the MFI-type zeolite, a structure control agent and a silica raw material having the average particle diameter of 10 nm and 1.0 m as raw materials; mixing the structure control agent with the silica raw material to prepare an aqueous solution satisfying XY0.05 (wherein X is the concentration (mol%) of the silica raw material; Y is the concentration (mol%) of the structure control agent); and covering the MFI-type zeolite by using the prepared aqueous solution. The method for producing high-purity paraxylene by using the manufactured synthetic zeolite catalyst is also provided.
