To prevent the breakage of the circumferential edge portion of the press face of a punch without deforming the corners of a tip even if the corner ridge portions of the tip body form convex curves, when a green compact of a longitudinal blade type throw-away tip is molded by means of a press molding die having upper and lower punches which approach or recede reciprocally in a direction corresponding to the direction of the thickness of the die and tip body.
The press molding die comprises the punches 21 and 22 which approach or recede reciprocally in the direction corresponding to the direction of the thickness of the vertical edge type throw-away tip, and the die 24 which is arranged to surround the periphery of the approaching punches 21 and 22 and demarcates a cavity 23. In the press molding of the green compact by compressing raw powder charged into the cavity 23 by means of the punches 21 and 22, at least a part of the portion of the green compact corresponding to the corner ridge portions of the tip body in the green compact is molded on the side of the die 24 out of the press molding die.
