To provide the accurate amount of side run-out of a wheel and the range of side run-out of the wheel to accurately measure the alignment of the wheel by removing the measured mount of side run-out, for example, when the measured amount is varied due to displacement of the wheel.
The amount of side run-out of the wheel is measured with the wheel being rotated. The amount of side run-out that corresponds to a plurality of specified rotational positions of measurement is stored. If the difference between the amount of side run-out at a first position and the amount thereof at a time-point when the wheel has made one turn comes within a specified limit, the difference between the maximum amount of side run-out and the minimum amount thereof during the one turn is determined as the range of the side run-out of the wheel. If the difference between the amount of side run-out at the first position and the amount of thereof at the time-point when the wheel has made one turn goes beyond the specified limit, judgement is continued at the next specified rotational position of measurement successively until the difference comes within the specified limit or until the time set for measurement is exceeded.
