To provide a method for rapidly and accurately measuring concentration of dithionite in a sample.
The concentration of dithionite in the sample is rapidly and accurately measured by adding a previously determined amount of hydrogen peroxide to the sample and then adding catalase in an amount which gradually increases in a predetermined time to the sample, monitoring production of oxygen in the sample, and recording the start of oxygen production and the quantity of the produced oxygen as the function of time. The recorded value is set as the standard quantity of the dithionite existing in the sample. The method is carried out in a vessel provided with an inlet and outlet and valve shutting them, an agitator and means for adding predetermined amount of the hydrogen peroxide and catalase and the means recording the start of production of the oxygen and quantity of the produced oxygen as the function of time.
