PURPOSE: To provide an electric resistance measuring method which is suitable for estimating whether a belt is suitable for an intermediate transfer belt to which a current is made to flow from a transfer bias roller for forming a trans fer electric field by a path provided with the directional components of a front surface direction and a thickness direction or not.
CONSTITUTION: For example, a rectangular electrode plate whose short side is 1cm and whose long side is 15cm is used as an electrode plate for measuring 36 and an electrode plate for impressing a voltage 38. Then, an amperemeter 39 is read by mutually bringing both electrode plates 36 and 38 into contact with the opposite surface of the above mentioned belt 19 so that projecting positions with respect to a virtual plane surface which is in parallel with the contact surface of the belt 19 are not mutually superposed and the mutual long sides become in parallel at the interval of 5cm. Based on the current value and the impressing voltage value of a power source 37, resistance is obtained.
