Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately measure the flow rate of a fluid flowing through a moving tube by obtaining the flow velocity distribution of the fluid in a fixed coordinate system from a visualized picture and calculating the fitting of the flow velocity values to the typical flow velocity distribution in the tube.
SOLUTION: After a liquid flowing through a tube 2 made of a light translucent material, such as the glass, an acrylic resin, etc., is exchanged with a dummy fluid containing dispersed tracer particles, a motor 3 is rotated. Then the visualized instantaneous picture of the flow of the dummy fluid in the tube 2 is obtained by irradiating the tube 2 with light from a light emitting device 16 positioned on the front side of the tube 2 and picking up the image of reflected light with an image pickup device 12. The signal of the visualized picture is inputted to a computer 14 after the signal is converted by means of a signal converter 13 and the flow velocity distribution of the dummy fluid in a moving coordinate system is calculated by processing the picture, and then, the coordinate system is transformed into the fixed coordinate system. Finally, the fitting curve of the flow velocity value on the fixed coordinate system obtained by performing a statistical process, such as the method of least squares, to the typical flow velocity distribution in the tube 2 and the flow rate of the liquid is estimated.
