Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve reliability by increasing a burst correcting length when data for which the size that is (n) times (n is the integer of 2 or more) the sector size is used as a processing unit.
CONSTITUTION: User data whose processing unit is 1,024 bytes are recorded in a 5-inch MO disk of 512 bytes/sector in a CS method. The total sector size of the MO disk is 610 bytes. The user data T1 and T2 each having 512 bytes are sequentially arranged in the lateral direction with the 10 bytes being arranged in the longitudinal direction. Control data C1 and C2 such as CRC are arranged at the rear sides of the data T1 and T2, respectively. A parity ECC is arranged at the rear side of the data C2 for the lengths of 10 bytes in the longitudinal direction and 16 bytes in the lateral direction. The ECC is used for the data T1, T2, C1 and C2, and the forming direction is in the lateral direction. The sum of the data T1, T2, C1, C2 and ECC becomes 1,220 bytes. The data are sequentially recorded in the MO disk in the longitudinal recording direction.
