Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare a carboxymethylcellulose ether alkali salt improved in water solubility by admitting an aqueous solution of the salt in a pressurized state into a metal powder layer to finely cut insoluble swollen gel particles.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution or water-containing solvent solution of a carboxymethylcellulose ether alkali salt (hereinbelow abbreviated as CMC) is prepared. It is desirable that the concentration of CMC is about 1-20wt.%. This solution in a pressurized state is admitted into a metal powder layer (e.g. stainless steel powder layer) to finely cut the insoluble microgel contained in the solution. It is desirable that the metal powder has a protruded shape and a particle diameter of 10-5000μm. If the polymer leaving the metal powder layer is further admitted into a stainless steel filter, the effect of finely cutting microgels can be heightened and the water solubility of CMC can be improved.
