Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method for modifying the surface of a carbon material capable of imparting the carbon material with oxidation resistance at a high temperature and excellent mechanical strength against thermal shock.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a carbon material is made porous and the carbon material is reacted with a silicon monoxide gas at 800-2,000°C to form a coating film of silicon carbide.
