PURPOSE: To provide a method for modifying the surface of a cellulosic fiber woven fabric by which the surface of the cellulosic woven fabric is modified without causing marked deterioration in strength of fibers to impart a unique touch feeling to the woven fabric.
CONSTITUTION: A paste liquid prepared by regulating the viscosity of a paste such as an alkali metallic alginate, CMC, methyl cellulose or PVA to 8000-300000cP (at 25°C) is blended with a cellulase having 1-25U/g filter paper hydrolytic activity thereof and a buffer agent such as acetic acid and/or an acetate is added to regulate the pH to 3-6. The obtained paste is then applied to one surface of a cellulosic fiber woven fabric (natural and regenerated cellulose) according to a flat screen printing method, etc., and heat-treated at 30-60°C for 1-140hr.
