Title:
METHOD FOR MODIFYING SURFACE OF TITANIUM-ALUMINUM SERIES ALLOY AND TITANIUM-ALUMINUM SERIES ALLOY HAVING MODIFIED LAYER ON SURFACE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3358796
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the oxidation resistance of an alloy by adding fine particles contg. at least one or more kinds among Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W to the surface of a Ti-Al series alloy base material and forming coating of oxides thereof.
SOLUTION: On the surface part of a Ti-Al alloy contg. 15 to 55 atomic % Al, substances contg. coating of oxides in which the relative value of standard forming energy is smaller than that of alumina are allowed to exist to impart mechanical energy thereto, by which a mechanical alloyed layer excellent in oxidation resistance can be formed. Concretely, against the surface of the Ti-Al alloy, one or more kinds of particles selected from SiO2, Cr2, MoO3, Nb2O5, Ta2O5 and WO3 having 5 to 100μm are repeatedly collided in the air by using a shot peening device, and mechanical alloying is executed to modify the surface, by which its oxidation resistance at high temps. is increased. Furthermore, the Ti-Al alloy is preferably composed of the one in which one or more kinds among group V or VI metals are added by 0.1 to 10 atomic % in total or 1 to 10 atomic % B is added as well.
