PURPOSE: To remarkably shorten the work period in reengining of a ship of a conventional type ty reusing an old crank shaft, etc. and modifying the engine parts situated outside a cylinder column to those for an up-to-date engine.
CONSTITUTION: Starting with an engine bed 1, main parts of an engine of a conventional type, or a main bearing 2, a crack shaft 3, a connecting rod lower part bearing 4, a connecting rod 5, a connecting rod upper bearing 6, a crosshead pin, and a cylinder column 8 are used without alteration. On the other hand, other main part such as a cylinder jacket 109, a tension bolt 110, a piston rod 111, a piston crown 112, a cylinder liner 113, a cylinder cover 114, a cover bolt 115, an exhaust valve operating construction 116, a fuel injection system tube 117, a pappet valve operating equipment 119, an exhaust valve rod 121, a supercharging blower 122, and an air reservoir 123 are modified to those for an up-to-date engine. And the ratio of a piston stroke to a piston diameter is designed to 2.8W 3.0:1 to match the compression ratio in a sense of an engine of a conventional type. With this contrivance, a conventional engine can be modified to an engine of a low fuel consumption and energy saving type.
