Title:
METHOD OF MONITORING OR MONITORINGLY CONTROLLING COATING OF TRANSPARENT FILAMENT HAVING HERMETIC MEMBRANE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3486677
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To monitor a thickness of a hermetic coating without affection of variation in power of a light source, by irradiating a filament (optical waveguide fiber) with a light beam so as to produce interference fringes.
CONSTITUTION: A light beam 10 having a spatial coherence and monochrome sufficient for interference fringes which is visible in a far-field, laterally irradiates a light waveguide fiber 13. In this case, the interference fringes are produced by superposition between light reflected from the outer surface 17 of the fiber, and refracted through the body of the fiber 13. By detecting the interference fringes, spatial frequency spectrums with respect to the interference fringes are produced. Further, a first component of the spatial frequency spectrums corresponding to the diameter of the fiber 13 is identified so as to determine a value of the first component indicating the thickness of the hermetic coating.
