To provide a method for monitoring spot welding, which method can accurately predict the diameter of a nugget irrespective of the thicknesses, materials, numbers, etc., of overlapped plates.
A conducting diameter dn and a mean temperature at a conducting path Yn for every steel plate Xn are calculated based on welding parameters including welding current and welding voltage, and materials TSn and plate thickness hn of the respective steel plates Xn. The conducting diameters dn, dn+1 and the mean temperature at the contact surfaces of the steel plates are calculated based on the conducting diameter dn and the mean temperature at the conducting path Yn for every steel plate Xn. The diameter of the nugget for every steel plate is predicted based on the mean temperature and the conducting diameters dn, dn+1 at the contact surfaces of the respective plates.
