The method for obtaining a polyarylene resin containing an ion exchange group includes: a precipitation step of dropwise adding a polyarylene solution containing an ion exchange group from a nozzle having a pore diameter of 1 mm or more but 4 mm or less, placed so as to be not less than 0.5 m in height from the liquid level of a poor solvent, to the poor solvent; and a collection step of collecting the polyarylene resin containing an ion exchange group precipitated in the poor solvent. The polyarylene resin containing an ion exchange group has a granular or threadlike shape having a cross section with a longer diameter of from 1 mm to 5 mm and a ratio between the longer diameter and the length of the cross section, ranging from 1:1 to 1:100.
