PURPOSE: To operate smoothly a blast furnace in the operation of the furnace by blowing powder into the furnace from a tuyere together with blast gas, by blowing different kinds of powders into the furnace in order at the time of tapping of pig iron.
CONSTITUTION: In the operation of a blast furnace, powder is blown into the furnace from a tuyere together with blast gas, and different kinds of powders are blown into the furnace in order at the time of tapping of pig iron. For example, CaO-base powder is used as powder to be blown in the early stage of tapping, and SiO2-base powder is used as powder to be blown in the last stage of tapping. The CaO-base powder is blown from a tuyere close to the tap hole, and the SiO2-base powder is blown from a tuyere at the opposite position. By this method, slag is properly regulated over the whole period of tapping.
