Abstract:

To suitably control the thickness of a coating layer formed on the inside of the sidewall of a reaction tower.

In the method for operating a flash smelting furnace, the amount of heat dissipated from a reaction tower 2 is detected, and when the detected amount of heat dissipated is larger than a predetermined threshold value, the amount of a reaction gas 11' blown from a blow nozzle 12 is set to an amount smaller than the amount of a reaction gas 11 blown from a concentrate burner 10 while keeping the total of the amount of the reaction gas 11 blown from the concentrate burner 10 and the amount of the reaction gas 11' blown from the blow nozzle 12 constant. Further, when the detected amount of heat dissipated from the reaction tower 2 is smaller than the predetermined threshold value, the amount of the reaction gas 11' blown from the blow nozzle 12 is set to an amount equal to the amount of the reaction gas 11 blown from the concentrate burner 10 while keeping the total of the amount of the reaction gas 11 blown from the concentrate burner 10 and the amount of the reaction gas 11' blown from the blow nozzle 12 constant.
