Abstract:
To provide an operation method for a dual fuel large diesel engine, which reduces a heat load on a piston ring in a gas mode.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, a large diesel engine can be operated in a liquid mode in which a liquid fuel is introduced, and in a gas mode in which a gas is introduced as fuel, and has at least one cylinder. A piston is disposed to be movable axially forward and backward along a cylinder wall between a lower inversion point and an upper inversion point, and has a top surface for defining a combustion chamber in the cylinder. At least one gas introduction opening is provided in the cylinder wall; in the gas mode, the gas is introduced into the cylinder through the gas introduction opening; and the introduction of the gas ends at an inlet distance at the latest. The inlet distance indicates an axial distance of the top surface of the piston from the gas introduction opening and is at least 14% of a stroke that is defined by a difference between positions of the top surface of the piston at the upper inversion point and the lower inversion point.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
