Abstract:
To provide a method for remarkably reducing melting electric power in the first charge of continuous operation in particular in the operation of an electric furnace for melting scraps by using the combustion heat of discarded tires for preheating scraps.
In the method for operating the electric furnace 1 for melting the scraps 11, before operating the first charge of the continuous operation, a giant tire 10 is charged together with the scraps 11 into the electric furnace 1. Oxygen is sprayed to the giant tire 10 by the lance pipe 6 of an oxygen sprayer 7 to burn the giant tire 10, and the scraps 11 are preheated by using the combustion heat.
