A printer model is used for predicting a color value being generated by a printer when it is addressed by a specific color value. The printer model may be defined by a plurality of colorant values in a colorant space and corresponding color points in a color space. When it is printed by means of a printer, color patches corresponding to the plurality of colorant points constitute a color target. Collection of colorant points is reduced by removing such a colorant point as the corresponding color point can be predicted, within a given tolerance, by the color point of an adjacent colorant point in the colorant space.
