PURPOSE: To obtain the corresponding alcohols and/or ketones by single step without requiring incidental facilities and waste liquid treatment, etc., by reacting a paraffin with hydrogen peroxide using a crystalline titanate silicate as a catalyst to partially oxidize the paraffin.
CONSTITUTION: A paraffin, preferably ≤20C paraffin is made to react with hydrogen peroxide using a crystalline titanosilicate, preferably having 5-200 silica/titania ratio as a catalyst, as necessary, in the presence of a solvent, preferably a polar solvent such as ≤6C alcohol, ketone, ether, glycol or carboxylic acid, preferably at 0-150°C and at ordinary pressure to 100 atomic pressure under conditions of molar ratios of paraffin/H2O2 of 0.5-10 and Ti/H2O2 of 0.001-0.2. The paraffin being poor in reactivity is partially oxidized to industrially advantageously provide corresponding alcohols and/or ketones at one stage.
