PURPOSE: To realize an abrasion-free operation without closing the same by combusting and oxidizing pulverous fuel with two kinds of gases which are different in oxygen content from each other.
CONSTITUTION: Two kinds of reaction gases I and II are used for combustion gases. The reaction gas I (oxygen) is fed from the center of a burner 1 into the reaction zone of a flash smelting furnace as a separate partly-turbulent hollow jet. The combustion gas II (air) is fed as at least three separate downward flows around the oxygen jet with the openness of 15 to 20°. Turbulent-flow channels 8 of pulverous fuel (enriched) are arranged on a single annulus among the air jets, and separate fuel jets flow therefrom at an angle of 15 to 50° with respect to the axis of a reaction shaft under the burner 1 to oxidize pulverous fuel supplied to the furnace with the combustion gases I and II, which are partially fed to the reaction zone in a form of a turbulent flow to combust and. oxidize the pulverous fuel. In this way, a high temperature needed for reaction is obtained.
