PURPOSE: To prevent CaO incorporated in a refractory from being digested to Ca(OH)2 and to prevent disintegration of the refractory by sealing and packing the refractory incorporating free CaO with an airtight material and substituting dry gas for the air in the inside of a package.
CONSTITUTION: A basic refractory 1 incorporating free CaO is placed on a gas impermeable airtight sheet 3 such as a PE sheet or a film vapordeposited with Al laid on a wooden pallet 2, similarly heaped up and packed in a gas impermeable box 4. This box 4 is formed of a lower box 5 and a cover 6 and the joint part is wound by an airtight tape 7 such as an Al foil and a synthetic resin tape to prevent infiltration of the outside air. Then, after the air in the package body is discharged with a vacuum pump 12 by utilizing a three-way valve 8, dry gas is encapsulated from a cylinder 16 at the same pressure as the outside air pressure and thereafter the pipe 8 is pulled off and a pipe insert hole 18 is closed. The refractory is packed by the airtight material and the gas free from moisture is encapsulated therein and therefore even when the refractory is conserved for a long period, CaO incorporated in the refractory is not digested by moisture and disintegration of the refractory is prevented.
