PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a patterned lapping plate.SOLUTION: A method of forming a patterned lapping plate comprises: providing a working tool 52A having a pattern comprising a plurality of raised teeth 54, each having a base, at least one side wall 56, and a terminal end 59; and patterning a lapping plate with the tool to provide a working surface having an inverse pattern of the tool surface in the working surface of the lapping plate, the patterning process plastically deforming the working surface of the lapping plate.
