PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pre-treating molten iron, in which molten iron is treated continuously at a silica removal step and at a dephosphorization step by using one converter type refining furnace while interposing a slag discharge step therebetween so that a satisfactory amount of slag is discharged quickly to the outside thereof to carry out the dephosphorization step while obtaining advantage in cost effectiveness and quality.SOLUTION: The method for pre-treating molten iron comprises: a silica removal step of removing silica from the molten iron while supplying a gaseous oxygen source from a top-blown lance 2 to a molten iron 5 in a converter type refining furnace 1; a slag discharge step of discharging at least a part of the slag produced at the silica removal step from the converter type refining furnace; and a dephosphorization step of adding CaO-based flux to the converter type refining furnace and removing phosphorus from the molten iron left behind therein by supplying the gaseous oxygen source from the top-blown lance. When the phosphorus is removed from the molten iron by supplying the gaseous oxygen source from the top-blown lance, a solid oxygen source is supplied to the surface of a molten iron bath and/or the vicinity thereof, to which the gaseous oxygen source is supplied from the top-blown lance.
