PURPOSE: To carry out the automatic correction or automatic renewal of a grinding-wheel surface by pressing and sliding a material to be polished against the surface of a grinding wheel at a high pressure in such a degree that the surface of the grinding wheel is collapsed and abrasive grains are separated.
CONSTITUTION: A polishing operation is performed by pressing and sliding a material to be polished against the surface of a precision polishing grinding wheel formed by joining abrasive grains together by means of a bonding agent and molding same. At this time, the material to be polished is pressed and slided at a pressure in such a degree that abrasive grains are separated from the grinding wheel in the surface portion with which the material to be polished is brought into contact. As a result, the surface of the grinding wheel is scraped off by the material to be polished, automatically carrying out the renewal of the surface or the correction of its shape. Thereby, the polishing operation can continuously carried out for a hours.
