Abstract:

PURPOSE: To reduce operation quantity and the kind of moving vectors without deteriorating predictive efficiency in movement compensation prediction for encoding an interlace picture.
CONSTITUTION: The predicted values of movement compensation predicting device 11 or 12 selected by a switch 14 are subtracted from the interlace picture signal of an input terminal 1 in a subtracter 2. The difference signals pass through a converter, a quatizer 4 and a variable length encoder 5 so as to be encoded and transmitted from the output terminal 15 and also become reproduction values by an inverse quantizer 6, an inverse converter 7 and an adder 8. The reproduction values are stored in field memories 9 and 10 as the data of one preceding field and the two preceding field. The movement compensation predicting device 11 utilizes the data of the memory 9 so as to obtain prediction concerning both horizontal and vertical directions and the movement compensation predicting device 12 utilizes the data of the memory 10 so as to obtain the predictive value concerning only the horizontal direction. A comparison value 13 controls the switch 14 based on the predictive error values of the movement compensation predicting devices 11 and 12.
