PURPOSE: To effectively preheat scraps including shavings by blending the scraps with a specified amount of coke, charging them into a conveyable bucket for charge provided with a water path for circulating cooling water and preheating the scraps with exhaust gas from an electric furnace.
CONSTITUTION: When scraps including shavings are preheated with exhaust gas from an electric furnace, the scraps are blended with 0.1W2.0wt% coke and charged into a conveyable bucket for charge provided with holes for feeding and draining cooling water and a water path for circulating the cooling water. The scraps are then preheated. The coke is preferably charged into the bucket in layers from the top of the charged scraps to the central part of the bucket in the longitudinal direction.
