To provide a method for preparing an aromatic carbonate carrying out more efficient energy integration, or achieving improved energy integration.
The method for preparing the aromatic carbonate is the method for preparing a diaryl carbonate and/or an alkyl aryl carbonate from a dialkyl carbonate and an aromatic hydroxy compound. The method includes (a) reacting the dialkyl carbonate with the aromatic hydroxy compound in an ester interchange column in the presence of an ester interchange catalyst, and (b) removing the vapor from the top of the ester interchange column, and condensing the vapor in a condenser. The ester interchange column has a concentration part at the upper part and a reaction zone at the lower part of the concentration part, and an intermediate condenser is installed in the concentration part of the ester interchange column. The heat of condensation caused by the condensation at the intermediate condenser is directly or indirectly returned to the process.
