Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing fullerenes in high purity with high yield by selectively removing impurities from a soot substance containing C60, C70 and higher order fullerenes.
SOLUTION: This method includes: a first process of mixing a soot substance containing C60, C70 and higher order fullerenes with an extraction solvent containing an aromatic hydrocarbon to obtain an extracted liquid; a second process of separating C60, C70 and higher order fullerenes into a liquid phase by liquid chromatography to obtain a separated liquid; a third process of adding a poor solvent having ≤10 mg/L solubility with C60 to the separated liquid to precipitate higher order fullerenes and to obtain a dissolved liquid of C60, C70; and a fourth process of distilling and/or cooling the poor solvent of C60 and the extraction solvent in the dissolved liquid to precipitate C60, C70.
