To provide a method for preparing an oxychlorination catalyst whose fluidity is hardly degraded and which has high activity and selectivity and to obtain the oxychlorination catalyst.

The oxychlorination catalyst is prepared by the following steps (a) to (d), namely, a step (a) to add an alkaline-earth metal halide aqueous solution to pseud-boehmite alumina slurry, a step (b) to prepare mixed slurry by adding a cupric chloride aqueous solution and a rare-earth metal chloride aqueous solution and/or an alkali metal halide aqueous solution, a step (c) to spray-dry the prepared mixed slurry and a step (d) to fire the fine particles obtained by the step (c). It is preferable that the pH of the mixed slurry is within the range of 2.5-5.0.
