A method of preparing teacher data to be used when determining whether or not an excavator has reached target soil includes the works of: acquiring excavation depth stratum data of a physical amount correlated with an operation state of the excavator in the soil equivalent to the target soil; preparing a plurality of frequency spectra by spectrally analyzing the excavation depth stratum data for each excavation depth; preparing quantization spectra by converting the maximum value to a fixed value for the respective frequency spectra; preparing primary processing teacher data by extracting at least two representative quantization spectra from the plurality of quantization spectra and averaging them; and preparing secondary processing teacher data by eliminating noise components of the primary processing teacher data.
