Abstract:

To provide a method for stably preparing a water-soluble polymer composition containing an ampholytic polymer useful for a sludge dehydrating agent for treating foul water or raw sewage, a dehydrating agent for paper making or the like.

A water-soluble polymer composition is prepared by homo- polymerizing or co-polymerizing at least one water-soluble monomer selected from a cationic monomer and a nonionic monomer in the presence of an ampholytic polymer compound which contains a cationic unit having 1 to 300 wt.% of an amino group based on the sum of all monomers and an anionic unit having 2 carboxyl groups.
