PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of curls and, moreover, enable It to be achieved simply inexpensively by performing medium printing on paper at a first stage printing unit and by effecting offset printing by means of a printing unit at the following stage.
CONSTITUTION: A solid drum capable of applying ink throughout the paper surface is employed as a printing drum 4 of the first stage printing unit 3A and a colorless and transparent medium is used as ink. The paper 2 pulled out of a paper supplying part is given medium printing at first on the whole of the surface to be printed by means of the first stage printing unit 3A for forming a medium layer 8. Thereafter, on the medium layer 8, a desired image is offset-printed by means of the following printing units 3B-3D. In this instance, a streak part is applied with ink 9 and damping water 10 comes in contact with a non-streak part (a blank part not absorbing ink), however, the damping water 10 is repelled by the medium layer 8 and thus not absorbed therein. In this manner, the occurrence of curls is prevented.
