Title:
METHOD OF PREVENTING EDGE OVERCOAT OF HOT DIP COATING
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0247247
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To completely prevent overcoat without deteriorating quality by controlling the plating thickness of hot dip coating applied on both surfaces of a steel sheet by gas wiping, then removing the plating metal sticking to both end faces prior to solidification.

CONSTITUTION: A strip 3 which is passed through a hot dip metal coating bath and is stuck with the plating metal on the front and rear surfaces is continuously pulled up and the plating metal excessively sticking to the strip is squeezed off by the gas jets from a pair of wiping nozzles 1, 1', by which the plating metal is controlled to a prescribed thickness. Knives 6 are pressed by pressing devices 7 to both end faces of the strip 3 on the down stream side of the above- mentioned wiping nozzles 1, 1' and the pressing force is adjusted by means ot touch rolls 8 in the above-mentioned process for producing the hot dip metal coated steel sheet. The plating metal sticking to both end faces of the strip 3 is scrapped in this way before the metal solidifies. The edge overcoat is completely prevented without exerting any influence at all on the surface quality and the adhesive property.
