Abstract:

To provide a method for decomposing a polyhalogenated aromatic compound contained in pitch of a stabilizer for a fluorescent lamp.

This method for decomposing the polyhalogenated aromatic compound contained in the pitch of the stabilizer for the fluorescent lamp comprises (a) a process wherein the pitch is contacted with an organic solvent in an enough amount so that the pitch and the organic solvent form a liquid phase in which the polyhalogenated aromatic compound is dissolved and (b) a process wherein the polyhalogenated aromatic compound in the liquid phase is chemically decomposed.
