By detecting the height of a portion near the rolling roll 3 of a spindle 2 transmitting driving torque from a driving motor 1 to the rolling roll 3 with a sensor 10, the oil pressure of a spindle positioner 9 is controlled in accordance with the height of the detected spindle 2. A change of the height of the spindle 2 during the waiting and rolling of the rolling roll 3 is restrained thereby, and the vibration of the rolling roll driving system at rolling bite is dissolved.
